April 2019 Newsletter
Dear Tennis Players,
Uffington Lawn Tennis Club is about to launch into the 2019 summer season - our first club night will be held at the courts on Weds 1 May at 1830hrs! All players welcome and encouraged to attend - club nights are every Wednesday throughout the summer and consist of a series of short games, rotating players throughout. All abilities welcome - arrive and leave as you please!
The Winter season closed with us finishing in 7th place in the mixed doubles league, narrowly missing out on 6th place by 1 point. This summer we have entered a ladies team (captained by Anne Hollingworth) and a mens team (captained by Giles Dawson) into the league. If anyone that has not been playing matches is interested in playing in the teams then please contact Club Captain, Annabel, (email@example.com) as we are always keen to get new players involved. We will also organise some friendly matches with other local clubs and if you would like to get involved with this, please contact Juliet Moss (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The club will hold its annual mixed doubles fund-raiser tournament on Sunday 7 July at 1400hrs. Players will play with multiple partners so there is no need to have a partner to enter. The tournament will be held across several tennis courts in the Uffington and Woolstone area and will finish with a final and BBQ at Woolstone Lodge by kind invitation of Anne and Laurence Hollingsworth. Non-players are welcome to spectate and attend the supper. The tournament entry fee will be £10.00. The BBQ will be £12.50 for adults, £6 for Under 12s, and £30 for a family ticket. Please sign up via email to Lynne Artus (email@example.com).
The club has been allocated 5 pairs of Wimbledon tickets this year. The ballot for these tickets will take place after the first club evening on Weds 1 May at the tennis courts. Winners will need to buy their tickets via the LTA website once allocated. The ballot will only be open to members of both Uffington Lawn Tennis Club and the LTA who opted in to the LTA ballot. If you have opted in but do not wish to be in the club draw, please email Lynne Artus to ask to be excluded (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Tom Wilsdon remains the club coach and offers both private and group coaching sessions at the club. He already offers junior coaching on a Tuesday in Faringdon, which many of our local children join in with, and these sessions will return to Uffington after Easter. He plans to start some adult skills and drills sessions soon too. To join any of these or for more information please contact Tom directly (Tel: 07729283603, email:email@example.com).
Membership Fees are due for the year ahead from the first club night on 1 May 19. Fees have been frozen from last year as follows: Under 11 £10.00, Junior/Student 11 to 21 or in full time education £15.00, Adult 21 & over £45.00, Family 2 adults & children under 18 £95.00. For active members, the club secretary, Lynne Artus, will send a payment request to renew your membership from Clubspark. For new members, please join via Clubspark.
Thank you - I look forward to seeing you on the courts!
